Resilience and Recovery – The Return of Wolves

July 23, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Learn more about the charismatic and controversial wolf.

Wolves are some of the world’s most charismatic and controversial animals. Intelligent and adaptable, they hunt and live in close-knit packs, sometimes roaming over hundreds of square miles. Once exterminated throughout most of the contiguous US, wolves have made a comeback in recent decades. This presentation will cover wolf social ecology, behavior, feeding habits, and the conservation and management of wolves.

Aaron Bott is the regional wolf biologist for Central Oregon, employed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Additionally, Aaron is a doctoral student at Utah State University studying wolves across the American West – predicting wolf behavioral patterns and testing novel non-lethal predator deterrents. Aaron began working with wolves in Yellowstone National Park as a master’s student at USU, eventually serving as the Wolf Project lead of a multi-year field study monitoring wolf spatial persistence and reproduction in the interior of the national park.
