Recreating Safely in Winter

This presentation will cover how to prepare for a winter outing and what gear is beneficial to have in case of an unplanned incident.
Presenter: John Fertig
John is a retired Forester and Marine Corps veteran with 45 years of experience working and recreating in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon. John has been a Backcountry Ski Patroller at Crater Lake National Park and has participated in numerous search and rescue incidents.
The Central Oregon Nordic Club (CONC) enhances cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in Central Oregon by:
- Organizing outings for ski touring, snowshoeing & hiking
- Maintaining over 100 miles of cross-country & snowshoe trails
- Maintaining 5 warming shelters & stocking them with firewood
- Organizing social events
- Advocating for the protection of the backcountry experience
- Teaching Nordic skiing skills
