Reader’s Theatre: Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” Part 1

May 5 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Have you ever wanted to dip a toe in the theatre world?  Join us as we read Thorton Wilder’s Our Town, a three-act play set in the 1930s town of Grover’s Corners with scripts in hand. We’ll take on characters from the play and read the script together. Beginners welcome in this low-stress theatre environment.

Scripts will be provided.

The play will be read over the course of two sessions. Find information on Part 2 hereYou are not required to come to both sessions, but the story will make more sense if you do!

“Thornton Wilder’s most frequently performed play, Our Town appeared on Broadway in 1938 to wide acclaim, and won the Pulitzer Prize…Our Town explores the relationship between two young Grover’s Corners neighbors, George Gibbs and Emily Webb, whose childhood friendship blossoms into romance, and then culminates in marriage. When Emily looses her life in childbirth, the circle of life portrayed in each of the three acts – growing up, adulthood, and death – is fully realized….In the final moments of the play, the recently deceased Emily is granted the opportunity to revisit one day in her life, only to discover that she never fully appreciated all she possessed until she lost it.” (https://www.thorntonwilder.com/our-town-about)

About Gloria Hedigo
This Reader’s Theatre will be faciliated by seasoned veteran of theatre and local Bend resident, Gloria Hedigo. Gloria is not only a lover of books, libraries and local book stores, but she is also an actor who enjoys reading and attempting to write scripts, performing, and really all things with words and conversation…maybe that’s because she is a retired speech-language pathologist. Glo is currently on the Cascades Theatrical Company’s (CTC) Board of Governors. Cascades Theatrical Company is Central Oregon’s oldest community theatre and Glo has led their Reader’s Theatres for several years. She has been seen on stage at CTC in The Philidephia Story and A Gift to Remember. She can also be seen in local commercials and as a Greeter in CTC’s newly refurbished Lobby where she always encourages theatre lovers to become members of CTC to support future productions and classes. She is extremely honored to represent Cascade Theatrical Company’s Readers Theater with Deschutes Library’s A Novel Idea…Read Together. We hope everyone has a wonderful learning experience with our reading of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town in comparison with Emily Habeck’s first novel Shark Heart.
