Open Hub Singing Club
May 2, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
An unforgettable evening of singing…together! All voices are welcome. No previous singing experience required. All songs are taught in a call-and-echo, aural tradition process.
This event is free, sponsored by the Deschutes Public Library.
Group singing is one of the most ancient technologies of belonging. The research suggested that our ancestors survived by singing together. They weren’t performing or recording. They were creating literal bonds of connection with their voices, which according to modern science also fills our brains with oxytocin and serotonin, hormones associated with trust & bonding.
Community songleader Ian Carrick is reinvigorating our culture with singing. Somehow we’ve mostly forgotten that singing together is our birthright. After a decade of searching for accessible forms of community-based music and recovering his own voice, Ian founded Open Hub Singing in 2016 after discovering a widespread North American cultural revival of aural tradition singing.
