Know Revolutions: Comparative Revolutions at BJCC
November 3, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Explore what revolutions have in common.
This is an in-person program.
Why do revolutions occur when and where they do? Why are they not more common? How do they transform economic and social relations? What sorts of regimes do they create? How do individuals decide to become revolutionaries or counter-revolutionaries? In this program, Thomas Luckett explores the scholarship on comparative revolutions that historians and sociologists have published over the last fifty years.
Thomas M. Luckett is a Professor of History at Portland State University, where his courses include the French Revolution, the American Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, and Comparative Social Revolutions. His research focuses on the history of business and credit in eighteenth-century France. With colleagues Erika Vause and Chia Yin Hsu, he co-organizes a biennial conference on the PSU campus, the Richard Robinson Business History Workshop.
