Introduction to Geocaching

September 28 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Free

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor adventure that originated in Oregon.  Participants use the Geocaching app and/or a GPS device to navigate to cleverly hidden containers called ‘geocaches.’  There are millions of these caches around the world.  It’s free to play and offers something for everyone, from families with children to retirees.

In this friendly introduction to geocaching, you’ll learn the answers to the following questions and topics:

  • What is geocaching?
  • How to play the game
  • I found one…now what?
  • Sign the Log Book
  • Trade SWAG and Trackables
  • Put it back, exactly as you found it!
  • How to log your find
  • Geocache sizes and types
  • Understanding “Difficulty” and “Terrain” (D/T)
  • Tips for beginners

After the presentation, you have the option to join a walk to find a geocache.  We’ll walk up to 1 mile total, starting and ending at the Downtown Bend Library.

About the Presenters:

Dewayne Fisher and Jean Kenyon-Fisher have been geocaching since June 22, 2009.  They have found caches in every state and 13 countries – totaling 17,196 so far.
