In Praise of Winter: writing ‘odes’

December 13 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Free

Registration is required.  All children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Please register all individuals who will be in attendance.

An ode is a type of poem that celebrates someone, something or an event. It is one of the oldest forms of poetry, dating back several thousand years. Modern writers use odes to celebrate absolutely anything they love, making it a very flexible and accessible type of poem. As long as you can think of something or someone you want to praise, you can write an ode! In this free family writing workshop, poet and local public school teacher Matthew Friday will take participants through the entire writing process, from generating ideas, drafting the poem and editing it. The session will end with optional sharing of the work. This workshop is suitable for all ages, and no previous experience is necessary. Matthew has taught odes with elementary school students and adults, so all are welcome!
