Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Derek Loeb for a geology hike along the Summit Loop Trail at Smith Rock State Park. This gorgeous loop follows the Burma Road up to a ridge overlooking the area. On the descent, the Summit Loop Trail crosses a private property protected by the Land Trust before joining the Park’s river trail. Learn about how this dramatic area was formed by volcanic forces and the relentless erosive power of the Crooked River while taking in sweeping views of the Cascade crest. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

Hike Rating: This is a challenging 7 mile hike along the Summit Loop Trail at Smith Rock State Park.

Route:This hike follows the Burma Road to a ridge and continues along the Summit Loop Trail.

Elevation gain/loss: This hike is challenging with nearly 950′ of elevation gain/loss.

What to Bring: Snacks/lunch, water, closed toe shoes. Dress for the weather.
