Western Music and Cowboy Poetry Around the Campfire
Associate Members of the Crooked River Roundup present an inaugural event – June 22nd – free to the public!
New this year during Rodeo Week is a Saturday afternoon event of Cowboy Poetry and Music at the Bowman Museum on June 22nd from 1PM to 3PM. Locals and visitors are all welcome to present family friendly performances of no more than 6 minutes. Free to enter and free to attend. CRR Associate Members are planning this event in support of expanding the overall experience of the Crooked River Roundup and our
western heritage. This is an Open Mic format inviting anyone and everyone to perform or listen. We invite performers to bring your best stuff to a live audience anxious to hear your story or your song. With support of the Bowman Museum we are staging sign-ups for performers on a first come first serve basis at the museum on Saturday June 22, the day of the event. Signups begin at 12:30 at the museum and performances will begin at 1PM in the Community Room. We expect a lively audience to embrace this new event. Tom Swearingen is the MC for this inaugural event. Tom is an award-winning cowboy poet from Tualatin Oregon who tells stories of the people and land of the American West through original poetry that is often inspired by his own experiences and observations from the saddle. This is an IWMA sanctioned event. The
International Western Music Association (IWMA) is an organization that encourages and supports the preservation, performance and composition of historic, traditional and contemporary music and poetry of The West.
A renewed effort is taking shape this year to increase involvement within our community during Crooked River Roundup Celebration Week. Last year the Crooked River Roundup board authorized the formation of a new volunteer group to help support the rodeo and the races. “Associate Members” are volunteers willing to help in every aspect of the hands on work in support of the Roundup. Renee Moss is the CRR board member overseeing the new Associate Members group.
