Cascade Winds’ 2023 Meet and Greet for Young People

The Cascade Winds Symphonic Band will hold its Meet and Greet for young people on Thursday
evening, May 18th, at 6:00PM in Wille Hall on the Bend COCC Campus. The event offers 50
youngsters the experience of what it’s like to be a part of a large musical ensemble. The event is free.
The Meet and Greet begins at 6pm. Participants mingle with the musicians, see and hear different instruments,
ask questions, and in some cases get hands-on experience. The band rehearsal begins at 7pm, when
youngsters are seated within the band in a section of their choosing (percussion, brass, or woodwinds)
or alongside players of a specific instrument in which they are interested. Maestro Michael Gesme will then
lead the group through exercises intended to give the participants familiarity with the different
instrument sections, demonstrate various musical concepts, and cultivate understanding about how the
separate parts come together to make a musical whole.
There are 50 seats available on a first come, first served basis. The event is free, but pre-registration is
required. Send an email to info@cascadewinds.org with “Tickets” in the subject line. Please include
the child’s name and what instrument or band section they are interested in.
