Volunteer Info Night: Deschutes National Forest
Friday, October 18, 2019, 1:00 AM - 2:30 AM
The Deschutes National Forest in partnership with Discover Your Forest, is hosting a Volunteer Information Night on Thursday, October 17th, 2019. We will offer information to members of the public interested in assisting with educational programs at Mt. Bachelor and other locations on the Forest during the 2019-2020 Winter season.
The Volunteer Information Night will be held on October 17th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Deschutes National Forest headquarters: 63095 Deschutes Market Road in Bend. The event is focused on recruiting volunteers to serve as winter interpretive rangers and winter conservation education rangers, however, individuals interested in other volunteer opportunities are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Volunteer Rangers will represent the U.S. Forest Service at Mt. Bachelor. Programs taking place this winter include: Ski or Snowboard with a Ranger, Snowshoe with a Ranger, and our youth education programs: Project SNOW (Studying Nature Outdoors in Winter), and Snow Science. Duties include delivering mile long snowshoe tours or skiing/snowboarding blue ski runs while providing formal interpretive talks. Volunteers are provided uniforms and training and should be willing to wear appropriate gear and have the physical ability to ski or snowboard two runs daily or snowshoe one mile twice daily.
For more information and to RSVP for the event, contact Stacey Cochran, Discover Your Forest’s Community Engagement Director, at 541-383-5530 or stacey.cochran@discovernw.org.
