The American Scene

Sunday, October 28, 2018, 2:00 AM - 4:00 AM

Hearing is believing! Audiences in Redmond will get the chance to hear Portland Youth Philharmonic when the orchestra visits on a tour ahead of their historic 95th season. PYP will perform a free concert at Redmond’s Ridgeview High School at 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 27, 2018.

Soon to be the first U.S. organization for young musicians to reach its 100th anniversary, Portland Youth Philharmonic commemorates 95 years of fearless artistry by presenting a movement from William Grant Still’s rarely-performed work The American Scene, as well as Dvořák’s expansive Symphony No. 6. Written by “the Dean of African-American composers,” The Far West evokes the age-old cultures and natural beauty of America’s West Coast. Radiant and robust, Dvořák’s Symphony conjures pastoral elements expressing the sheer joy of being alive. The concerts will also include a performance of the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto by 17-year-old violinist Aaron Greene, winner of PYP’s 2018-19 Soloist Competition.

The Redmond performance is free and all are welcome to attend. Full details at www.portlandyouthphil.org/redmond.
