Hossein Salehi is a musician and music instructor born to a musical and artistic family in 1949. At age 7 he began a lifelong journey of learning santoor (Persian Hammered dulcimer) under his father Maestro Abbas Salehi. At age 10 he started competing in and winning local musical competitions at school district in Tehran, Iran. By 15, he won the national first place award for being the best in his age group on the Santoor. He was honored to play alongside renowned Iranian musicians on national television. In 1998-1999 Hossein received an Oregon Historical Society Folklife Program Apprenticeship Award as a Master Artist, which has been one of his greatest honors. In 2009, Hossein's dream of a non-profit music and performing arts school was realized when he founded the ArtMax Academy, a nonprofit school of Music and the Performing Arts. He was a recipient of a Master Artist Award presented by Oregon Folklife Network in 2018-2019.

In addition, teaching to over one thousand students during six the recent decades and overseeing dozens of musical projects, conducting several workshops in Oregon and beyond and several concerts with renowned musical bands such as Pink Martini, Portland, Youth Philharmonic, Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Portland Chamber Orchestra is just part of Maestro Hossein Salehi's artistic achievements.
