Cancer Composium Without Borders
On Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 pm, Cancer with Compassion, a Bend-based support organization, will present an online experience for cancer patients in treatment, cancer survivors and those who love someone with cancer. The event features patient and survivor testimonies, music, a presentation by local oncology naturopathic physician Dr. Katherine Neubaurer and a moving Luminary Ceremony which honors those still in the battle and those loved and lost to cancer.
In 2019, the faith-based organization sponsored an in-person Cancer Composium which was a great success. In 2020, due to the pandemic, the Cancer Composium goes virtual and thereby “Without Borders.” Anyone, anywhere can view the event. The program will be featured on the Cancer with Compassion Facebook page and website at www.cancerwithcompassion.com. It can also be viewed on the Holy Communion Church Facebook page and website at www.holycommunionbend.org.
Last year, the Composium raised over $11,000 for integrative therapies for Central Oregon patients and survivors. Dollars raised this year will help with treatment bills of cancer patients who are unable to pay in these difficult times.
Cancer with Compassion’s founder Rev. Cathie Young speaks of the need for the event. “Many cancer patients have been deeply impacted by the COVID threat. Their immune systems are already compromised, making them more susceptible to the virus. This has forced them into even greater isolation than cancer already has. The message of Cancer Composium Without Borders is ‘you are not alone.’ We want cancer patients and survivors to feel part of a community of people who share the same challenges. We want to walk with them on their cancer journey.”
