Post-Burn Tour, Metolius Preserve

June 6, 2024 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Join Peter Cooper for a tour of the prescribed burn completed this spring at the Metolius Preserve.

Join the Deschutes Land Trust for a tour of the prescribed burn completed this spring at the Metolius Preserve. The Land Trust is working with our partners at The Nature Conservancy and Deschutes National Forest/Sisters Ranger District to reintroduce fire to the Preserve. Visit the recently burned section and learn why fire is so important to our ponderosa pine forests. Registration is required and opens 1 month prior to the event.

Hike Rating: This is a moderate 1-2 mile walk on Preserve trails and off-trail through the forest.

Route: This hike will start at the North Trailhead of the Metolius Preserve, follow Preserve trails, then go off-trail through the burned area. Terrain will be uneven at times.

Elevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.

What to Bring: Snacks/lunch, water, closed toe shoes. Dress for the weather.

Accessibility: The Land Trust is working to make our Walks + Hikes as accessible as possible. Please email us at event@deschuteslandtrust.org at least one week in advance if there is something we can do or provide to support you in participating in this outing to the fullest and we will accommodate as possible.
