The 1920s Oregon KKK and its Opponents History Pub Encore

Wednesday, June 27, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Explore how Oregonians in the 1920's resisted the KKK at History Pub Encore.

David A. Horowitz explores how the Jazz Age Ku Kluz Klan attracted millions of middle-class and urban followers across the nation and how a coalition of Oregonians contributed to the movement's demise by contesting the order's fusion of ethnic prejudice, anti-intellectualism, and purity reform.

A native of the Bronx, New York, Horowitz is a graduate of Antioch College and the recipient of a History PhD. from the University of Minnesota. He has taught U.S. Cultural and Modern Political History at Portland State University since 1968.

Professor Horowitz is the editor and annotator of a collection of La Grande, Oregon KKK minutes entitled "Inside the Klavern: The Secret History of a 1920s Ku Klux Klan." He also has published "America's Political Class Under Fire: The Twentieth Century's Great Culture War" and a recent personal and professional memoir entitled "Getting There: An American Cultural Odyssey."
