The rules of quantum mechanics describe the assembly and behavior of atoms, molecules for all materials, devices, tissues, and organs, from the smallest to the largest, the fastest to the slowest. There are a number of specific examples: electrical conduction in metals, semiconductors such as silicon, and devices such as transistors and smart phones. Discussion will include how these quantum rules describe in what way atoms bind to form molecules, molecules to form tissues and organs that can communicate and transfer energy. Finally, we hope to illustrate the role of these rules in diagnostic processes such as X-ray, PET and MRI scans.
