Sponsored by: TANK LAW, PC Join us Wednesday, November 14, 2018 Hampton Inn & Suites 730 SW Columbia Street, Bend, OR 97702 Presented by Jeff Burgess, Technical Assistance for Employers, BOLI 7:30 a.m. Registration check-in 7:45 a.m. Breakfast and Announcements 8:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Presentation This half-day session provides HR personnel, business owners, managers and front-line supervisors with practical tips and advice regarding the lawful hiring and firing of employees. Discussions include legal hiring practices (how to legally select the right person for the job) and how to appropriately (and lawfully) document, discipline and discharge your employees. Legal requirements place a number of significant restrictions on how employers go about advertising positions, soliciting applications, interviewing candidates and conducting background checks. A misstep here can potentially create room for a lawsuit around issues like employment discrimination, negligent hiring or invasion of privacy. This seminar will also provide you with the knowledge and tools to properly document employee performance, use positive and negative feedback to keep employees on track, deal swiftly and fairly with problem employees and lawfully handle a termination. Plus, lots of opportunities to ask your questions! About the speaker – Jeff joined the Bureau of Labor and Industries in 2002 where he was an agency prosecutor for 7 years, taking civil rights and wage and hour cases to administrative hearing. In 2009, he joined the Technical Assistance for Employers Program where he teaches seminars and answers inquiries about employment law for business owners, managers, human resources professionals and attorneys. Approved for 4 (HR (General)) recertification credit hours for SHRM-CP; recertification through the HR Certification Institute is pending.
